My dear brilliant, caring, beautiful family and friends,
We met with the oncologist today, and following an exam, she gave us the
following information:
There is nothing of concern (at this point) other than the pelvic mass (ovary
and uterus)
Surgery scheduled for Monday the 22nd
Total hysterectomy (uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes, and ovaries)
Open surgery (not laparoscopic) because the mass seems to be adhered to other
organs
Surgery expected to be four hours
4-6 days in hospital
Chemo for a total of 18 weeks (six three-week courses over an as yet
undetermined period of time) starting three-four weeks post-surgery
Pathology report expected back a week after surgery
Lots of prep coming up: antibiotics, colon prep (feh), Covid test, etc.
Glen has generously offered to field texts and calls while I am in the hospital,
and depending on how I’m doing, you’ll hear from me too.
He will send out periodic updates as is useful.
Please do not contact him on the day of surgery (Monday)—he will let you know
how I’m doing.
His phone number is: 310-738-2607. If you’ve never texted him before, please say
who you are in your first text.
He is taking care of me in all possible ways (going through all the paperwork so
I don’t even need to look at it, creating a schedule to tell me to take meds or
start colon prep, etc.), and this takes all the stress off of me. He is rising
very high to this. Please send him lots of love.
The oncologist’s guess is that this is stage 3 ovarian cancer, but nothing is
definitive until the surgery is done and pathology report is in.
Stage 3 sounds great compared to stage 4.
The doctor (whom we LOVE) was encouraging so we are hopeful.
With all possible love and gratitude (you are my village)~
